Add extra helping hands to each of your boxes

You’ve collected hundreds of cans, jars, and other dry goods. What a great job! Unfortunately, when everything is dumped into one big heap, volunteers will need to spend hours lifting, inspecting, and organizing everything. Basic packaging materials can greatly assist in making things easier at the beginning.

Shelves filled with donated pantry staples help support local food bank efforts.

Ask the food bank ahead of time what it needs most; what it won’t accept; and how it would prefer its donations to be organized. Different organizations may desire to separate canned vegetables from pasta or use an entirely different organization method. Using their organization methods now will save volunteers time after the food drive has ended.

Use boxes which adults can pick up when full. While a large box may contain many cans, it could easily become very heavy and difficult to transport safely. Medium-sized boxes with sturdy bottoms are often easier to carry, stack, and load into vehicles.

Include large labels on every collection box. Names that are easy to recognize (i.e., breakfast foods, canned meals, etc.) will allow those donating to identify where each item goes. Letters should be visible from across the room and pictures are helpful when children are assisting.

Keep some additional packaging materials nearby (tape, blank labels, markers and/or small plastic bags) in order to keep volunteers focused on the task and able to efficiently organize. The table that includes these needed packaging supplies will allow the process to flow smoothly and Help new volunteers learn the organizational systems quickly.

Before you package your donations for delivery check each item. All food should be sealed/un-opened and follow local guidelines regarding expiration dates. Containers that are dented, leaky, swollen, rusty or broken may not be safe to donate. Also, Glass items may not be accepted due to potential damage during transportation.

In each carton put the heaviest items closest to the bottom and lighter boxes/soft packs can go on top. Don’t fill a carton so tight that the food becomes damaged. If necessary, use clean paper to fill empty spaces in a carton so that items don’t shift during travel.

On the outside of the carton indicate the kind of goods included and an approximate weight. This warning (example “heavy cans”) will alert a volunteer before they attempt to lift a box. Labeling the boxes with numbers can also assist the lead person determine how many items were collected and provide results back to the community.

Labeled donation cartons marked heavy cans and numbered

Also consider weather conditions. Store food away from wet ground, cover the collection area if rain is likely to occur, and store full boxes inside. Stretch film can Help tie multiple boxes together for a quick trip but it should not obscure labels.

Better packaging doesn’t simply give a tidy appearance to a room. It provides protection for donated products; reduces the likelihood of injuries; and allows food bank employees to focus their efforts toward providing assistance to families. When each box arrives neatly packaged, free from hazards, and properly labeled, acts of kindness from the collection site can arrive sooner in a neighbor’s kitchen.

The Simple Way Businesses Cut Costs Without Cutting Quality

When a business hits a growth spurt, the first place expenses quietly pile up isn’t payroll, rent, or marketing—it’s packaging. It’s the tape you don’t notice until you’re out. It’s the boxes that seem to melt in the rain. It’s the bubble mailers that promise protection but arrive looking like they ran a marathon across the warehouse floor. And at some point, every operations manager realizes the same thing: your packaging materials either support your brand… or silently sabotage it.

That’s the moment when “packaging supplies” stop being a line item and start being a strategic decision. Because the truth is, the quality of the packaging you choose determines far more than how neat your shipments look when they leave the warehouse. It shapes customer impressions, impacts replacement-order costs, influences shipping efficiency, and even affects your team’s workflow. Well-chosen supplies create consistency. Poor supplies create chaos.

Professional-grade packaging supplies solve these problems in a structured, dependable way. Whether a business ships out 30 orders per week or 30,000, the right supplies ensure that every package looks intentional, protected, and branded with confidence. Corrugated boxes designed for durability help products survive rough carrier handling without compromising presentation. Premium tape ensures packages stay sealed the first time—rather than requiring “triple-taping,” wasting materials and adding minutes to each order. Bubble rolls, foam sheets, and cushioning materials reduce internal movement, which is still one of the leading causes of damage claims in the U.S. logistics system. In short, the right supplies reduce headaches before they start.

A strong packaging strategy always begins with the basics. Sturdy boxes that match your product dimensions save money by reducing void fill and wasted space. High-quality poly mailers protect lightweight items without adding unnecessary shipping weight. Kraft paper, bubble rolls, and air cushioning prevent internal impact. And strong water-activated tape provides a tamper-evident seal that performs in humidity, heat, and cold. When these components work together, they create a reliable packaging workflow that saves time, cuts material costs, and delivers a better customer experience.

But efficiency doesn’t stop with protection. Packaging supplies also determine labor flow inside the warehouse. Fast-assembly mailers, self-sealing tape, and right-sized box options all reduce the time it takes to prepare each shipment. Over the course of a year, even shaving off an extra 10 seconds per package can add back hundreds of labor hours. That time can then be redirected toward inventory management, quality control, or faster order fulfillment. Better supplies create operational breathing room.

Eco-friendly packaging options add another layer of value that modern businesses can’t ignore. Many companies today choose recycled corrugated boxes, biodegradable void fill, or recyclable mailers because sustainability matters to their customers. But for operations managers, the advantage goes deeper: eco-friendly packaging often reduces waste stream fees, stacks more cleanly, and holds up better under stress. Responsible packaging doesn’t have to be soft or flimsy—it can be strong, reliable, and built to reduce total environmental impact while still protecting your bottom line.

For businesses scaling up, refreshing their brand, or simply trying to tighten their operations, upgrading packaging supplies is one of the simplest and highest-ROI decisions available. It reduces damage rates, increases customer satisfaction, supports efficient workflow, and reinforces brand credibility. Packaging is the first physical touchpoint your customer has with your business—and when done right, it builds trust, loyalty, and repeat orders.

Whether you’re shipping candles, tools, electronics, handmade goods, or industrial parts, the right packaging supplies provide a level of consistency that keeps customers confident and operations running smoothly. And in a business environment where speed, quality, and trust determine who wins the repeat sale, choosing the right packaging materials is no longer optional—it’s foundational.

Good Packaging Starts Before the Box Is Taped

Most packaging problems don’t start at the packing table. They start earlier, when supplies are chosen without much thought.

A business might pick a box because it’s cheap or because it’s always been used. Tape gets ordered because it’s familiar. Fillers are added without measuring how much is actually needed. None of these choices seem like a big deal on their own, but together they shape how every order ships.

Packaging supplies work best when they’re matched to the product. Heavy items need structure. Fragile items need control. Lightweight items need balance. When the box fits the product correctly, everything else becomes easier. Less filler is needed. Less tape is used. The package feels solid instead of loose.

One common mistake is overpacking to avoid damage. Extra filler and extra tape may feel safer, but they often increase shipping costs without adding real protection. In some cases, too much material allows items to shift more, not less. Good packaging supplies are designed to hold items in place, not bury them.

Another issue is wear and tear. Boxes weaken if they sit in humid spaces. Tape loses strength when exposed to dust or heat. Supplies that are stored poorly don’t perform the way they should, even if they were good quality to begin with. That’s why storage matters just as much as the supplies themselves.

Efficiency is another quiet benefit of the right packaging supplies. When workers know exactly which box to grab and how much material to use, packing becomes second nature. There’s less stopping, less thinking, and fewer mistakes. That kind of flow is hard to measure but easy to feel during a busy day.

Packaging also affects problem-solving. When damage happens, businesses with standardized supplies can trace the issue. Was the box too weak? Was the filler wrong? Was the size off? Without consistency, it’s hard to fix anything because every shipment is different.

Customers experience packaging before they ever touch the product. A clean, sturdy box sets expectations. It tells them the business pays attention. Even simple packaging can feel professional when it’s done with purpose.

Rising shipping costs have forced many businesses to rethink their process. Packaging supplies are one of the few areas where small adjustments can still make a difference. Better box sizing, smarter material use, and consistent packing methods all help reduce waste.

Good packaging doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of choosing supplies that match the job and using them the same way every time.

When packaging supplies are handled with intention, fewer problems follow the shipment out the door.

Different ways to add a Personalized Branding experience

Have a company that needs a little bit of different branding, or an overhaul? Then why not look at some of the different types of branding and personalized types of customer experiences that you can offer. Here, we’ll discuss a few of them.

First, get inspired!

You can look at some of the people that inspire you, and try to emulate them. a lot of times, the right people will help you start to change your packaging and branding that are there.  Many times, you can also read what makes them inspired and tick, and you can emulate this in your own packaging.

Have a story

Behind every single successful branded packaging, there’s a story. Your story is something that makes you different from the other guy down the street. While the logo and the colors do matter, the brand story is basically the why, the reason why you’re doing this.

You should share this with others, and really dig deep to figure out the brand story. It’ll have you understand who you are, how to get started, and also really help you think this through.

You should consider the following:

  • The purpose of the company
  • The impact you made
  • How you developed this
  • The future you want to have
  • How you can use your company to shape this
  • Other stories that really shaped the business.

Remember, be authentic, and have a good story.

Look at the Packaging Purpose

What purpose does the packaging need?

Do you need to make sure that it’s protected against the cold and heat? Do you think that there are certain things you can incorporate to make sure that the unboxing experience is good, and creates an amazing first impression with the brand. The customer experience and the design are super important, and it lets you stand out in different products.

You don’t need a ton of things but a little bit goes a long way in the grand scheme of things.

Be Consistent

You want people to remember who you are? Then you want to be consistent with this.

When you think of certain companies, you’ll remember the colors. Those are used for defining their brand, and if you want to look at the different types of packaging and products, you know that color recognition is there.

You don’t have to play some guessing game behind what’s there.  This is great, because of the different unique sorts of flavors, offering a feeling of happiness and excitement once it’s seen. This is important, because they use similar colors to what’s on their website, making it cohesive.

Think about the Expectations

Finally, consider their expectations when they see this. they want to make sure that you have those expectations set in your packaging.

Remember, someone may not know who you are, and you want to make sure that you offer a good and encouraging sort of message. Maybe they’ve heard of you, and they want to see if you live up to this.

You want to make sure that you give them the item that they desire, and make sure everything shows up together and intact.  Sometimes people can buy these in the store, so the expectations might be different.

Make sure that you make it fitting with your brand. If you’re going for the minimal, make sure that you fulfill tht sort of expectation. This is vital, especially for the overall vibe of the packaging.

Having an idea of the packaging of your product is vital, and making sure that you have this matters.

Sound-Activated Features with Sonic Packaging

Did you know that the concept of sound is great for packaging experiences? The concept of using sound in your packaging, especially incorporating such a thing, can offer functional, branding measures that really stand out.

Here, we’ll go over the features of sound-activated packaging for better security and engagement, along with the best ways to ensure that your packaging is properly maintained.

How this Works

Sound-responsible labels to your packaging are common. These labels react to various audio stimuli, or maybe a specific one.

Another is packaging that will have an alarm, alerting when it’s been tampered with. Just like how a security alarm alerts of intruders, this alerts when someone messes with the item, to the point where the item might be compromised.

There’s also audio branding, done through QR code based sound triggers, in order to showcase the item at hand.   This is all somewhat new, but with the multitude of benefits, it can be a good way to provide another layer to your packaging.

Thee applications

A lot of brands that pride themselves on being interactive use this type of packaging. Interactive marketing is a fun way to show to customers the unique nature of your items, and improves the way that one looks at the items. You can also get other people to enjoy the item, using the audio as a means to make it shine.

Another one is child-proof packaging. Childproof packaging needs to have some kind of alarm or preventative measure, and this can alert parents right away when a child’s messing with the item.

Another is packaging that’s theft-preventative. Those items that are protected from pilfering use an alarm, offering a fun, enhanced experience for the items.   The power of sound is something exciting, and offers a better way to protect such items from the others that might have less-than-bold intentions.

The Benefits

With sonic packaging, you’re able to enhance the engagement of the items.   Your packaging is properly interacted with, and also will in turn markedly improve the items.   A lot of kids like audio-based packaging because it’s fun to hear the sounds.

For those who have sensitive packaging, or items that you don’t want a kid to get into, this type of packaging offers an extra bit of security you might not get otherwise, so it can be good for protecting items, especially if you’re trying to keep the item safe and secure.

Finally, it offers an immersive brand element.   A lot of brands, when they try to be immersive, use sonic packaging. They’re able to create a deeper connection with the item and customers who enjoy this, in turn making it something worthwhile that they will want to enjoy.

So eyes, sonic packaging can offer and bolster the packaging experiences in its own unique way.

The future of This Packaging

Sonic packaging has a lot of fun, different ways for you to really enhance the experience.

A lot of AI generated sound signatures might be on the horizon, which personalize your packaging based on the interactions of users. For example, if you have a brand ambassador that people like, when they open it, they can hear the voice, or maybe a specific, calming sound that will get users excited.

Overall, if you’re going to use that, make sure you have permission to use the sound. But with sonic packaging, you have a lot of enhanced experiences and better value to the items. So, when using this, it not only provides a better experience, but it can also be one that stays with a customer for a long time.

Make Every Return Easier

A customer sends their shirt back (it didn’t fit) and while the product is good the mailer ripped when opened. The customer now must obtain a new mailing envelope, purchase some additional tape, create a label, figure out how to enclose all the parts, and now have spent most of the afternoon. What once was just a simple return has now turned into an after-dinner job.

A woman examines a torn delivery package while checking its contents at the kitchen table.

Packaging supplies designed specifically for returns can take care of many of those issues. Purchase orders in containers that can travel there and back are very effective for returning products such as clothing and/or shoes; sample kits and similar types of products that the customer may want to exchange.

One type of mailer used for this purpose includes two sealable edges. Once you ship your order using this type of mailer, the first edge will seal it prior to leaving your hands. Then if the product is returned by the customer, they will use the second edge to seal it. In addition to being able to use each of the two edges separately, there is a tear line placed down the middle that allows you to separate the two edges to access the contents of the mailer without having to cut through both edges at once.

You can also prepare boxes for returns. To open the top of the box with ease, include a “pull” strip that will allow you to separate the flaps from one another. Also include an additional strip to seal the box upon closing. While the box will still be strong enough to withstand its second journey, it may not provide the same level of protection as it did on its initial trip.

The instructions included with the container are important in making sure that the customer understands how to utilize the container properly. A brief note explaining to the customer that they should save the original wrapping material until they try on or test the product. Explain to them where to apply the new label and which seem to pull to open the mailer. Using plain language will minimize confusion and complaints.

A customer reviews shipping instructions beside a labeled package at a busy mailing center.

Do not forget about potential previous shipping labels. Any previous labels should be removed and blanked over so that the customer’s return label will be easily readable. Do not put anything on top of the return label.

Also consider what is inside the container. For example, if you are sending clothing items, including a reusable bag will help maintain cleanliness during transportation back to you. Consider where you would like to store loose items such as small parts, cords or paper guides so they do not get misplaced.

Before purchasing packages in bulk, test a complete round trip. Package a sample shipment, then open it. Seal it again and transport it for a few hours. If the secondary seal no longer adheres or if the package loses its structural integrity during transportation, then you might have purchased a less-than-ideal option.

In addition to providing a convenient experience for your customers, using return-ready packaging can also assist in reducing waste since the packaging is reused for both trips. Your customers will not have to search for alternative packaging materials and your company may receive damaged products in better condition. While minimizing waste is beneficial, you must ensure that your packaging protects your product during both journeys.

While returns can never truly be enjoyable, utilizing return-ready packaging options can certainly facilitate a relatively stress-free process. Since the original packaging is easy to reuse, your customer will know exactly what actions to take without a multitude of steps. Taking time to plan ahead can help transform an arduous return process into a seamless journey back home.

Returns Begin Prior To Delivery

A return does not start when a buyer prints a return shipping label. A return starts the moment a buyer selects their first package. If that package has been opened (torn), sealed (with additional tape) and is now too fragile for the round-trip journey; then the buyer will have to locate another container or package. Having packages ready for returns (return-ready) makes this process easier for both the buyer and the retailer.

A reusable cardboard box designed for multiple shipping trips sits on a table in a warehouse.

Review your most returned items. Items such as clothes, shoes and/or other merchandise sold in multiple sizes may require a reusable package. Examples include a mailer that contains two seal strips. One seal strip seals the original shipment going outbound. The second seal strip remains sealed until the time the buyer is ready to ship the product back. Make sure there are no pieces of dust, torn paper or loose filler materials near the unsealed portion of the return seal strip. Many boxes contain an optional second flap or seal specifically designed for use during a return.

When preparing for the return, be mindful of how you create access for the buyer to open the package. Be certain that any component that may be required by the buyer later in the return process is not damaged. When adding a “tear strip” be sure to put it on a separate area of the package than where the return seal is located. Provide short written instructions that clearly identify which direction to pull the tear strip and which portion of the seal to preserve. Create space within the package so that a new shipping label may be applied directly onto the package. Remove any existing barcode or address prior to applying a new shipping label.

You can also design inner packaging to be reusable. Folded tissue paper can surround the item once again if it was kept clean. Clear bags that can seal themselves can help protect smaller items and clothing. The cardboard inserts/pads/dividers should fit neatly back into position without requiring the buyer to solve a puzzle. Filler materials that are loose (i.e., Styrofoam peanuts, etc.) may cause problems since they can fall out during transit, become misplaced or provide inadequate protection for the item being returned.

Choose packaging based upon what type of product it protects, rather than what type of packaging would work best for each individual order. For example, soft-goods may travel well in a sturdy mailer. Products that are either hard or breakable may require a box. Using paper-based packaging alternatives/recycled materials may reduce packaging waste when reused properly. However, ensure that the packaging is durable enough to complete both legs of the journey.

A worker inspects a packaged box in a busy packaging testing lab.

Testing your packaging method via mock-ups (or asking another employee to test your packaging method) will allow you to identify potential weaknesses. Have someone attempt to disassemble the package and insert the item back into its original packaging. Once inserted, have them apply a return shipping label. Afterward, check to see if the seal remained intact and if the return shipping label laid flat against the package. Note if additional tape, scissors or a larger/new box were required to facilitate ease of disassembly/re-assembly. Any additional steps may pose difficulties for the buyer attempting to accomplish the return at home.

Easy returns do not indicate that you want more merchandise sent back to you. Rather, easy returns demonstrate that you view returning an item as part of completing an entire order. The buyer does not have to search for another box/containing unit. In addition, when receiving returns, you will receive a package of a predetermined size. By utilizing quality return packaging supplies, you can reuse one package for two purposes while reducing unnecessary packaging waste.

Using Sustainable Packaging for an Ecommerce business.

In our world, sustainability is not just some buzzword, but rather it’s an essential part of helping businesses succeed and thrive. This is true for online stores, especially if you want to make sure the packaging plays a role. Through sustainable choices, you’ll be able to reduce the environmental impact you make, and also enhance one’s branding and attract potential customers. Here, we’ll discuss why it’s important to have sustainable packaging for ecommerce businesses, and the steps to make this possible.

 Why Sustainability Matters

When we think of traditional packaging, most of us realize that the impact one has on the environment is not something to deny.

For instance, too much plastic and materials not used to recycle have caused excessive waste, and many times, traditional packaging makes things much worse.

They contribute to the depletion and pollution of those natural resources.

This is where sustainability comes in, as this can help with ensuring that you have recyclable, biodegradable, even compostable materials, reducing the carbon footprint one ash.

Let’s look however at the different aspects of sustainable packaging, and the impact this has on a business.

The impact of packaging on our World

Normal, traditional packaging relies on sing-use plastics and materials that aren’t recyclable. While that worked for a long time, it isn’t anymore.

The materials take a long time to break things down, clog the landfills and thereby pollute oceans and rivers. The volume of waste that’s created by normal packaging is staggering, and it contributes to global waste that we see people trying to fix these days.

The production of this packaging does involve extraction of these materials, and it also depletes the limited resources we have already.

Plus, when you manufacture these, it releases greenhouse gases that are harmful and contribute to climate change.

Sustainable Packaging for Businesses

When you have sustainable packaging, it plays a role in the generation of waste and promoting more responsibility to the environment.

Through opting for eco-friendly types of alternatives, it contributes to better, more sustainable practices. It also promotes greener futures.

However, what is sustainable packaging?  It is basically using materials that are easy to recycle, biodegradable, and also easy to compost.

The materials have a much lower environmental impact on our world when compared to regular packaging.

For example, biodegradable materials will ensure that the packaging does break down naturally, and it reduces the burden that’s placed on landfills.

With sustainable packaging, you also encourage recycled materials, creating a loop in this.

Through incorporation of recyclable items in the production of packaging, it reduces the demand for virgin materials, minimizing the quality of the energy consumption.

Another big part of this is of course, the life cycle that products have.

So yes, designing the packaging so that it’s eco friendly and also friendly and efficient on storage and transport does help with reducing the fuel consumption during transport too.  It also reduces one’s carbon footprint.

Sustainability isn’t just a trend, it’s a necessity in our world. it gives businesses a chance to minimize this environmental impact, contributing to more sustainability in the future.

Embracement of this allows for people to reduce the waste that they have. This gives many people a chance to have more resources.

In order to protect the environment for our future generations, you need to make sure that you pay attention to resources. With packaging, this is possible, and it will indeed change the life of much forever, so always keep this in mind when choosing your packaging types, to get the best results for you as well.

Using Graphic Illustrations for Packaging

When you’re creating a package, you want to make sure that, once you’ve defined the structural and the technical parameters, you need to look at the design that you go for too. During the initial phase of graphic design, ties’ imperative to find the best visuals to spread out the message to other people, and to communicate this brand, the style, and to catch the eye of the consumers.

Then, based on the style chosen, you’ll be able to decide the correct representation that’s suited for the needs that you have.

Here, we’ll go over how you can take advantage of these illustrations when packaging a design.

Illustrations by definition means any decorations or pictures that are used with some text in order to embellish both meaning and appearance.

In this, we’ll also consider illustrations to involve drawings that are created in order to convey content in a specified manner.

Packaging is something that uses illustrations in a lot of ways, oftentimes as a central and recurring aspect of it. this is due to the fact that the representations of this, when used correctly, offer a powerful, positive result, especially in terms of communications and other terms. Illustrations do depict all sorts of thoughts, and a concept visually in an effective, flexible manner. This is something that’s used with narrative along with evocative aspects, which allow you to move this forward, amazing those around you, and sourcing the emotions of readers and observers.

These feelings get imprinted on memory, and it really does show a picture is more than a thousand words.

But flexibility in terms of semantics along with immediacy \are two of the main traits that distinguish these words from images. Often, the use of these illustrations is vital to conveying messages. When we discuss skillful use, this means illustrations designed according to targets and indicators, taking as well into consideration communication, along with marketing done on the projects, in order to reach these goals specifically.

For instance, good illustrations are those that define, along with characterize the graphics of this packaging, offering a personality that’s strong to products, strengthen the identity of the corporation, while at the same time, providing a product position that distinguishes this from your competition, increasing the attractive nature of such.

Illustrations also build your brand.  When you create an illustrative style that’s custom, and something that works on a promotional, and sales channel level, companies recognize this, and people then associate the imagery provided with the brand itself.

There are a lot of ways to use illustrations. The beauty of this is that through all of these different illustrations, you get a variety of different packaging uses. The packages selected also move with different illustrations. These single images then split themselves up into various panels, and the pictures afterwards then tell stories.  You can also see through this how illustrations are different, and they highlight them in order to provide a way for your brand to enhance a style in a custom manner.

In general, pictures are vital, and illustrations provide just that for your packaging needs. If you’re someone interested in packaging, improving of such, and the benefits of packaging, you can take advantage of this here. try to use packaging to meet your needs and improve the aspects of this. Through doing so, you’ll be able to create styles that are unique, customized, and one that provides you with exactly what it is that you need to do for your own needs, and everything associated with this for your packaging as well.
