Challenges in Cosmetic Packaging Design

When choosing designs, you want to make sure that first impressions are in place. Many cosmetic companies want to have a nice first impression, in order to make it a fun product experience.

A ton of beauty brands will face this challenge when they design items correctly. As the shift in the industry continues to change into the modern age, and there’s far more demand for ingenious and adaptable designs to packaging solutions, there’s now new challenges that come with this.

Due to the trends that are evolving constantly, packaging needs to not only look good, but also are friendly to the environment. Tons of beauty brands come to face the hurdles that come with designing components that will in turn, affect the production speed, and also to promote hygiene and transparency of this.

These complex hurdles can be hard to navigate, finding the correct balance between having the packaging meet the current trends, and the equilibrium of functionality and form. Getting this right happy medium does require some legwork, which we’ll go over right now.

Shape and Packaging

In our packaging design world, the shape is a huge determinant for how that production efficiency occurs.

While there are eye-catching and unique designs that will attract the buyers, there are also some factors that do require some additional handling, which may impact the production speed compared to those with more standardized types of shapes.

While simple shapes are done via injection molding, there are also a lot of complex shapes that may require 3D printing or CNC machining. Choosing the right packaging shapes is something that we see in a lot of cosmetic packaging, and it’s why we help our customers find the best and most automated processes.

You want to make the packaging easy to use, and also does fit into the packaging well, without it being a huge time waster.

Size It Up

The packaging size also plays a huge part of this. bigger packaging sizes require more of everything, and there’s greater space that will cause challenges during the transportation process.

Because of the larger volume, it requires far more to be labeled and filled. There is also the smaller packaging, much of which may require far less time to label and fill and may be good if you’re looking to lower costs.

The sizes of the packaging and the materials do need to be minimized without sacrificing the user appeal and functionality. We do offer some structural design services, allowing you to consult the packaging engineers on how you wish to achieve this. packaging that physically takes up far less space is great for production efficiency, and the cost-effectiveness and also the environmental factors.

Count

Finally, you need to also focus on the units that you have. Simply put, more units, more time. But less units may actually cost more due to the production efficiency being compromised. This is something to consider, as you may want to increase that packaging design count so you’re not dealing with component swaps that result in expedited levels of production, and lessened costs per unit due to the economies of scale.

The cosmetic packaging that you have achieves this through utilizing the same type of design of your products whenever you can.

If there are specific labeling needs, then companies can use the base of the structure for the packaging, so that parts of this are streamlined.

Keep all these in mind when designing packages, and you’ll find it’s definitely worthwhile in the long haul, as it will help with setting up your packaging line for better success as well.
